Huawei P50 Pocket – Fit in your Pocket

Huawei is launching their first flip smartphone which will be called, Huawei P50 Pocket, on the 23 December 2021. Yes, Huawei has made a foldable smartphone before. But, not a flip smartphone that is similar to the Samsung Z Flip 3 and the Motorola Razr. So it is going to be interesting to see how does the Huawei P50 Pocket do in the smartphone market.

Design of Huawei P50 Pocket

As illustrated above, the Huawei P50 Pocket will have a luxurious flip smartphone design. It will come in a beautiful gold color which makes the smartphone stand out a lot. The Huawei P50 Pocket will also come in two other colors which are the following:

  • Black
  • Silver

The back where the rear camera is will be in a black layout and above it when flipped closed, there is a small circle screen. The layout of the small circle screen is quite weird and it seems like an old mistake Samsung did with the Samsung Z Flip before which they corrected with the Samsung Z Flip 3.

As you can see in the Samsung Z Flip front screen designs when folded, are bit more in order and Samsung improved its layout greatly in the Samsung Z Flip 3. Thus, users will question the Huawei P50 Pocket design in front and if the small screen will be able to do the same functions which the Samsung Z Flip 3 offers.

The small front circle will basically be a notification viewer like you experience on some smart watches which you can see in the video below as demonstration. Quite impressive.

Rest, the Huawei P50 Pocket will make use of a type – C plug in to ensure rapid fast charging. However, the Huawei P50 Pocket will not have a jack plug in section or a section to expands its external memory on board. This will upset some users that like to use wired headphones and users that like to expand its on board memory with external SD cards. These two plug ins are becoming less included with majority smartphones, which indicates these items are becoming something of the past.

But as you see in the illustration above, the Huawei P50 Pocket is a beautiful small smartphone and looks like a small mirror pocket some make-up artist or ladies like to have. So if you like a smartphone that can reduce its size by flipping it closed, then the Huawei P50 Pocket is smartphone you may want to consider.

Huawei P50 Pocket VS Samsung Z Flip 3

The main differences between the Huawei P50 Pocket and the Samsung Z Flip 3 are the following:

  • Size – The Huawei P50 Pocket is 0,15 inches bigger than the Samsung Z Flip 3. Not so much of difference, but the Huawei P50 Pocket has the better size.

  • Weight – The Huawei P50 Pocket is heaviest smartphone to carry and use between them. However, is not that big of a difference.

  • Rear Camera – The Huawei P50 Pocket has three rear camera lenses, whereas the Samsung Z Flip 3 only has two rear camera lenses. It is obvious the Huawei P50 Pocket also has the better rear camera.

  • Battery Capacity – The battery capacity of the Huawei P50 Pocket is 700 mAh greater than the Samsung Z Flip 3’s battery capacity. Meaning the Huawei P50 Pocket battery will last longer compare to the Samsung Z Flip 3’s battery before having the need to recharge. Plus the Huawei P50 Pocket battery charges way faster compare to the Samsung Z Flip 3.

  • Storage and RAM – The Huawei P50 Pocket has far more on board memory for storage and RAM as compare to the Samsung Z Flip 3. Definitely the better smartphone to choice between the two.

Overall: The Huawei P50 Pocket is the better flip smartphone in overall. The only problem you may experience is that the Huawei P50 Pocket is not with the GMS platform which may cause some nuisance when trying to use certain applications. Rest, the Huawei P50 Pocket will not disappoint you.

Where can you purchase the Huawei P50 Pocket?

The Huawei P50 Pocket will first be made available in China only from the 23rd December 2021. Hopefully into the new year of 2022, the Huawei P50 Pocket will be made available for sale in other countries. I hope this happens soon as it does look like a good flip smartphone.

Retail price for the Huawei P50 Pocket

The following retail prices for the Huawei P50 Pocket are just assumptions and may differ at different retailers around the world.

By looking at the retail price assumption, the Huawei P50 Pocket will fall under the premium smartphone category. It won’t be the most expensive smartphone to buy, but it will not be affordable for many users. Or users will prefer other smartphones that are more affordable or matches their budget.

Conclusion

The Huawei P50 Pocket design looks very luxurious. You will definitely stand out in the crowd when you walk around with this smartphone. The small screen when the Huawei P50 Pocket is flipped closed, looks a bit out of place though. It will cause some users not to go for it do this weird layout.

Rest of the Huawei P50 Pocket is really impressive. It is far superior compare to the Samsung Z Flip 3. Thus, it will sell well when it becomes available worldwide. Hope this happens soon as this is a flip smartphone that all users must consider on getting.

  1. How easy do you think it would be to view apps/messages on this type of flip phone as compared to a flat smartphone? I remember flip phones from years ago and think it’s quite a surprise that companies would bring them back. Not sure I would consider buying this type of phone, but appreciate how you’ve laid out all its features in this easy to read article.

It is very easy to view the apps and messages as the little small screen in front of the Huawei P50 Pocket when folded close, is suppose to show your messages and apps like a smart watch. Plus when the Huawei P50 Pocket unfolds, it is basically the same size as a normal smartphone display. No difference at all. Just fold or flip the smartphone into a smaller size which many users demand. So you will have no struggles at all using the Huawei P50 Pocket.

I would suggest when you in a retail store that sells smartphones, to ask if you can see a flip smartphone in person to feel and experience the flip smartphone design for yourself. Then you will be able to determine if you would go for such smartphone.

Appreciate the compliment how we laid out the website. If you have any other questions regarding flip smartphones, please do not hesitate to ask.

  2. I’m in the market for a new cell phone. The Huawei P50 Pocket phone looks really nice. I miss the flip smartphones from the 2000’s. Old school with a luxurious flare. I’m not crazy about the fact that Huawei is heavier than Samsung. But there are so many other benefits and features to Huawei, that I don’t mind. Too bad this phone is only available in China.

The flip smartphones are way different compare to the 2000s flip smartphones. The 2000s flip smartphones had physical keypads still, whereas the new flip smartphones literally split their own screen to flip close and open which is amazing how advanced technology has become.

The weight of the Huawei P50 Pocket is upsetting for me as well. However, the features the Huawei P50 Pro offers, is way more advanced compare to other flip smartphones. Thus, it will sell more. Sadly, the Huawei P50 Pocket will o ly be available in China first. Make sense though as the product just launched and they want to see if it will be successful before trying to sell the Huawei P50 Pocket worldwide. Plus remember Huawei can still not sell in America due to a ban.
