OPPO latest smartphone releases

OPPO latest smartphone releases are part of the following two smartphone series under their smartphone brand:

  • A series
  • Reno series

The new OPPO smartphones that we are going to look at are the following:

  • OPPO A16
  • OPPO A54
  • OPPO A54 5G
  • OPPO Reno6 5G
  • OPPO Reno6 Pro

Now with each new OPPO smartphone we will compare it with their previous OPPO smartphone versions to see if there are any changes or improvements.

OPPO A15 VS OPPO A16

The major changes with the new OPPO A16 that launched on the 17th July 2021 in Indonesia are the following:

  • Weight – The OPPO A16 is 15g heavier than the OPPO A15.
  • Rear Camera Layout – The OPPO A16 rear camera layout has changed quite a bit and looks more luxurious compare to the OPPO A15.
  • Front Camera – The OPPO A16 has 3MP better front camera than the OPPO A15. Making it more likely to that the OPPO A16 takes better selfie photos than the OPPO A15.
  • RAM – The OPPO A16 only has the 3GB RAM option, whereas the OPPO A15 has a lower RAM option as well. Higher is better to process applications and data faster.
  • Battery Capacity – The OPPO A16 has 770 mAh more battery capacity than the OPPO A15 which means the OPPO A16’s battery lasts longer than the OPPO A15’s battery.

Overall: The OPPO A16 has improved quite a bit. The features that stand out the most for the OPPO A16 is the rear camera layout and the extra battery capacity. I am disappointed for the memory storage capacity. I would have expected OPPO giving the OPPO A16 a 64GB memory capacity option as well, but maybe that is something they can look into the future.

OPPO A53 VS OPPO A54

The major differences between the OPPO A53 and OPPO A54 are the following:

  • Weight – The OPPO A54 is 6g heavier than the OPPO A53. Not so much of a difference.
  • Rear camera layout – It seems the OPPO A54 rear camera layout went back to a basic look. The OPPO A53 rear camera layout looks more premium than the OPPO A54.

Overall: The OPPO A54 has not changed much compare to the OPPO A53. To be honest, the previous OPPO A53 looks more premium than the OPPO A54. Thus, my recommendation would be to take the OPPO A53 when the OPPO A54 comes out worldwide as the OPPO A53 will be cheaper at this time period.

OPPO A53 5G VS OPPO A54 5G

The major differences between the OPPO A54 5G and the OPPO A53 5G are the following:

  • Weight – The OPPO A54 5G is 15g heavier than the OPPO A53 5G. Quite a bit heavier than the previous OPPO A53 5G.
  • Front Camera – The OPPO A54 5G has 8MP better front camera than the OPPO A53 5G. The OPPO A54 5G definitely takes way better selfies than the OPPO A53 5G.
  • Rear Camera – The OPPO A54 5G rear camera has a vast MP than the OPPO A53 5G, meaning the OPPO A54 5G way better photos than the previous OPPO A53 5G.
  • Rear Camera Layout – The OPPO A54 5G rear camera layout has a more stylish and elegant look than the OPPO A53 5G rear camera.
  • RAM – The OPPO A54 5G only has one RAM memory option which is sad as the OPPO A53 5G has two RAM memory options whereas one RAM option is way better than the OPPO A54 5G option.
  • Storage – The OPPO A54 5G has two memory options whereas the OPPO A53 5G only has one option. Thus, the OPPO A54 5G has more options for users.
  • Battery Capacity – The OPPO A54 5G has 960 mAh more battery capacity than then OPPO A53 5G’s battery which means the OPPO A54 5G’s battery lasts way longer than the OPPO A53 5G’s battery.

Overall: The 5G versions of the OPPO A54 is way better compare to the normal OPPO A54. To be honest, the OPPO A54 5G is a big upgrade compare to the OPPO A53 5G’s features. It has so many changes and improvements. The only thing that may upset a smartphone user is the no 6GB RAM option. Maybe this can be changed in the future.

OPPO RENO5 5G VS OPPO RENO6 5G

The major changes in the new OPPO Reno6 5G will offer are the following:

  • Weight – The OPPO Reno6 5G is either 2g or 10g heavier than the OPPO Reno5 5G. Not so much different among each other.
  • Flash Layout – The OPPO Reno6 5G flash is moved upper whereas the OPPO Reno5 5G’s flash is below next to the last rear camera lens.

Overall: The OPPO Reno6 5G has not changed at all compare to the OPPO Reno5 5G specs. I would at least expect a major change for the series, but I guess not. Thus, my recommendation would be to wait for the new OPPO Reno6 5G to be released in order to get the OPPO Reno5 5G at a lower price.

OPPO Reno5 Pro VS OPPO Reno6 Pro

The major differences between the OPPO Reno5 Pro and OPPO Reno6 Pro are the following:

  • Weight – The OPPO Reno6 Pro is 4g heavier than the OPPO Reno5 Pro.
  • Flash Layout – The OPPO Reno6 Pro’s flash is combined with one of the rear camera lenses, while the OPPO Reno5 Pro’s flash is separate from its rear camera lenses.
  • Battery capacity – The OPPO Reno6 Pro has 150 mAh more battery capacity than the OPPO Reno5 Pro which means the OPPO Reno6 Pro does last a bit longer than the OPPO Reno5 Pro.

Overall: The OPPO Reno6 Pro has some slight changes compare to the OPPO Reno5 Pro, but no major changes or improvements. Thus, my recommendation would be the same as the normal OPPO Reno6 5G, wait till the new OPPO Reno6 Pro is released and go for the OPPO Reno5 Pro that will go for at a lower price.

Conclusion

Not many of the new OPPO smartphones have changed much compare to their previous OPPO smartphone versions. Thus, majority users will rather select the previous OPPO smartphone versions when the new OPPO smartphones are released, due the price of the previous OPPO smartphone versions will be cheaper, but have similar same features that the new OPPO smartphones offer.

The only new OPPO smartphones that stand out are the following:

  • OPPO A16
  • OPPO A54 5G

These two OPPO smartphones have some minor and major improvements in specs compare to their previous OPPO smartphone versions. The OPPO A54 5G stands out the most in the mid card range. I would even consider it an upgrade to the premium class.

Would you consider one of these new OPPO smartphones or would you rather prefer the previous OPPO smartphone versions?

  1. Hi Burnheart,

This is a very important post. It’s great that you spread the awareness of these new OPPO smartphones to help everyone’s smartphone selection for the future.

These should be the best smartphones ever, the features are just amazing. With the RAM of  8GB and storage of up to 256GB, these are almost computers.

This is helpful, thanks for sharing

Thank you for your comment and compliment!

Smartphones today are like small portable computers we all carry around with us now. Of course there are small differences still between computers and smartphones. Plus some smartphones can be plugged into a certain device and convert your tv or monitor to a computer. It is amazing.

These new Oppo smartphones are good, but some I expected more improvements and not similar to their predecessors. The ones that stand out with change are Oppo A16, A54 5G and Reno6 Pro 5G.

  2. I am always looking for a replacement to my overpriced iPhone, and your article on OPPO grabbed my attention. However, after reading several reviews, I am going to keep looking. I like the style and feel of the OPPO phones, but I am a bit concerned about how the phone is designed. It uses Media Tek processor, which have had performance issues; and the processor tends to become slow and doesn’t load apps correctly after a while.

And it’s difficult to compare one OPPO phone to another because they don’t use a standard bench test. Each phone is somewhat different from other similar models. I also found out OPPO does not supply any updates, but I am not sure this is bad or good, but it’s something to consider. Lastly, I have read the OPPO smartphone quick charger degrades the battery quickly. Overall, I like the style because it mimics the iPhone; and if I was using it just to make calls, I’d probably purchase it, but the price and the fact other features I need in a smartphone are not up to standards with OPP smartphones, I am going to keep looking.

Thank you for the detailed comment!

I agree the OPPO smartphone design is stylish plus has good specs. Also concerned of the processor you mentioned as I do not like to struggle to load apps at all. Maybe OPPO will have a look into that.

Any smartphone battery can degrade quickly depending the charger you use, not just for OPPO. However, it has been mentioned the quick charger of OPPO does cause this result. Another thing OPPO needs to look into.

The updates is another concern as I feel updates is needed to keep your smartphone running smoothly and make use of new or current apps. I am certain this point is also looked into.

Overall, I would say it all depends on your smartphone preferences cause each person is different when it comes to smartphone selection. If you want to know more about it, check out the following post.
